The Orange Door is an upscale consignment boutique in downtown Longmont, Colorado. We specialize in misses and juniors fashions, footwear, and accessories. We also feature the region’s largest assortment of hand-made wearable art and jewelry.

A bit of our history: Sharon Hinton founded SandCastle Kids, a children’s consignment store on South Main Street in 1995. The Fobes Family bought the business in 2003. Awhile later, they moved the business downtown into the historic Schey’s Building at 370 Main Street, continuing a tradition of 90+ years of clothing sales in that very space.

In June of 2008, Brian and Darlene Brown bought the building and the business from The Fobes’, changing the name of the business to GreenBack Family Consignment.  Catering to the entire family, they sold childrens items as well as begun to offer women’s, junior, young men, and men selections. Under the direction of Elise Thomas, a longtime jewelry artisan and their store manager, they opened the hand.made @ GreenBack store-within-a-store, matching the area’s finest artisans with a retail environment on one of the most visible (and viable) Main Streets in the Front Range.

As one of the worst recessions in 100 years dragged on, it became apparent that children’s consignment was no longer a competitive viable model. So, in August 2009, the decision was made to cater to only misses and juniors, focusing on fine brands and labels, as well as making more room for the local artisans to consign their wearable art and jewelry in the hand.made store. Likewise, the GreenBack name no longer fit the evolved upscale offerings of the current business, so a whole list of names were batted around to coincide with the new store focus. The Orange Door rose to the top of list for four of the five folks on the “brainstorming” team, and the decision was final.

From Schey’s to SandCastle Kids, through GreenBack and now onto The Orange Door, we’re moving into the third century of fine clothing retail on Main Street in Longmont, Colorado.
